Troy Times Michigan, Indian cooking classes make for healthy, delicious meals, by Robin Ruehlen, C & G Staff Writer

Former student Courtney Wilkinson said she decided to try the class after cooking with some Indian friends in college.

"Sunetra always has stories and jokes to tell, so we're always laughing. At her classes, you learn cooking, eat well and have a lot of fun. Also, you make really nice friends," Wilkinson said.

Sunetra's Anarasay Cookies are finalists in the 2006 Detroit Free Press Holiday Cookie Contest.

Almost 600 recipes were submitted in the first Free Press Holiday Cookie Contest. When the finalists came to the newspaper last week with their friends and relatives and their freshly baked cookies for judging, we were smiling, too. [The Anarasay cookies were in the top 40.]

Sunetra's cooking classes are featured in the Food section of the Detroit Free Press. The article is written by Sylvia Rector and titled, CURRYING FLAVOR: Novi woman's down-to-earth style complements the healthful Indian cooking classes she's taught for more than 20 years.

The four students ooh'ed and aah'ed, pleased at their success. This is what the Novi cooking teacher and cookbook author loves -- showing people how simple it can be to prepare delicious, healthful Indian vegetarian cuisine at home.

She's been teaching these hands-on lessons for more than 20 years, turning small groups of novices into competent meal-makers and strangers into friends with her warmth, sense of humor and down-to-earth style.

The Novi News carries an article on Sunetra's cooking classes. The article is titled, Cooking Indian-style, by Pam Fleming.

Humbad provides useful tips during class, such as adding salt to the corn oil when preparing fried foods to prevent the oil from smoking.

The class includes a sit-down dinner during which class participants get to try all of the dishes they just helped prepare plus copies of recipes made that night.
